Igor Klymenko: The Ministry of Internal Affairs creates a strategic analysis center to predict the security situation in Ukraine against the background of Russian aggression
This was stated by the Minister of the Interior Igor Klimenko during a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine Ricardo Lopes-Aranda Haga.
The head of the department Igor Klymenko stressed that the most important task of the Government and the Parliament is to do everything possible to make Ukrainian citizens feel safe. To this end, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is working on a law on the safe arrangement of Ukrainian cities and villages.
Igor Klimenko assured the Spanish partners that the fate of the safe life of our citizens after the victory is now decided. In particular, even during the war, Ukraine implements many security projects. For example, in a month in Ukraine the telephone hotline “112” will work.
“At the same time, we are starting the work of the Center for Strategic Analysis in order to predict the entire security situation in our country. We have selected a group of analysts and ask the Spanish side to conduct training for this group,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko.
He added that it is Spain that has considerable experience in the functioning of such analytical units.
“It is about control of arms circulation and this issue is under control in the European Commission and Europol. We have already taken the first step: on June 23 we open the Unified Register of Weapons. At the same time, we will adopt appropriate legislation that will regulate the circulation of weapons in our country. And for our President, this is one of the priorities of the peaceful existence of the state. We have to control weapons in our country and control that they do not get into the countries of the European Union,” said Igor Klymenko.
The Minister of Internal Affairs also said that Ukraine has already provided the European Union with all the necessary information regarding war criminals who are in the Ukrainian base. According to Igor Klymenko, some of these criminals may try to settle in EU countries.
In turn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine Ricardo Lopez-Arando Hagu said that such meetings are very important for both sides, as they help to discuss in more detail the urgent needs of Ukraine and exchange experiences:
“Our meetings are very useful, because we can use them as a field for finding topics on which we can cooperate together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. We are very enthusiastic about new initiatives on this issue.”
In particular, Ricardo Lopez-Aranda Hagou assured that Spain is ready to help our state overcome all the challenges that our country has faced.
“I see that we can overcome all these challenges together. In turn, Spain can get involved in many of these topics. It is very important that you have a clear plan and perspective, and this can help in organizing all cooperation processes. As part of the Ministry of the Interior of Spain, we have such a predictive analytical center that deals with problems related to terrorist acts on sites of critical infrastructure in Spain. It is these specialists who can help you,” said Ricardo Lopez-Aranda Hagou.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary also added that under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Spain there is a body dealing with arms circulation, which could also help Ukraine in this matter.
“We had cooperation projects with your ministry even before the war. This is a political sign of the world to show that we cooperated before a full-scale invasion, we are working during the war and we will work after it is over,” said Ricardo Lopez-Aranda Hagou.
In turn, Interior Minister Igor Klimenko welcomed the decision of Spanish colleagues to assist Ukraine in launching a strategic analysis unit:
“Thank you for understanding that we already need to work fruitfully today. We must be prepared for the challenges that await our country. Even more, we consider security in our country as the security of the entire European continent in general.”
The parties also discussed the issue of rehabilitation of Ukrainian servicemen.
In particular, Igor Klimenko asked the Spanish side to help with medical personnel and equipment for such centers. In addition, the Minister of the Interior told the partners about the problem of minesweeping in our country and the urgent needs in this matter.
At the end of the meeting, the parties thanked each other for a meaningful dialogue and agreed on further cooperation.
