Igor Klymenko: The Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing a set of measures to minimize the challenges that will await the country after the end of the war
This was stated by the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko during a conversation with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Estonia Laura Lianeemets.
At the beginning of the talks, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko thanked his Estonian colleagues for the comprehensive support of the country against the background of a full-scale Russian invasion. The head of the Ukrainian department stressed that Ukraine keeps in constant contact with the Estonian authorities:
“We appealed to the Government of Estonia to assist the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the issue of creating a safe environment after the end of hostilities in our country. We try to take the best in each country and we are grateful to Estonia for the feedback we receive every time.”
Igor Klimenko told Estonian Minister of Internal Affairs Laura Lianeemets that despite the constant fighting in Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing a special Law on the formation of a security environment after the end of the war.
In his turn, Estonian Minister of Internal Affairs Lauri Lianeemets thanked the Ukrainian people for their struggle and noted that the security of the whole of Europe depends on peace in Ukraine:
“We are convinced that sustainable peace in Europe is possible only after the war, when Ukraine will be integrated into the Euro-Atlantic structures. We know from our experience that this is not an easy road and requires patience and reforms, but Estonia is ready to fully support Ukraine on this path.”
According to Laura Liaenemets, he personally and the entire Estonian Government will make every effort to make NATO allies help Ukraine even more.
“We support Ukraine's efforts to establish a special tribunal to bring all war criminals to justice. We are sure that the sanctions pressure on Russia will intensify,” the Estonian Interior Minister stressed.
In response, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko said that Ukrainian investigators continue to document new crimes of Russia every day. And at this moment, Ukraine is ready to transfer to international partners a base of war criminals, namely more than 200 thousand people who have crossed over to the side of the enemy.
Separately, the Heads of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and Estonia discussed the issue of demining Ukraine. According to Igor Klymenko, currently about a thousand sappers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are engaged in operational demining of Ukraine. Sappers have already managed to mine and defuse about half a million explosive objects since the beginning of the war, however, Ukraine continues to be one of the most mined countries in the world.
In turn, Estonian Minister of Internal Affairs Lauri Lianeemets assured that his country is ready to help Ukraine in this matter:
“Estonian sappers are fully prepared to travel to Ukraine to help with the demining of territories.”
At the end of the conversation, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko and his Estonian counterpart Laura Lienemets agreed to continue to maintain cooperation between the departments.
“We hope that the countries of the world will continue to help us. At the same time, we are doing everything possible within the country, in order to bring Victory Day closer and keep the country in the matter of the criminogenic situation and in general, regarding the security of our state,” Ihor Klymenko summed up.
