Emergency medicine doctor Yulia Kononenko successfully passed selection for the assault brigade of the National Police “Fury”. The volunteer seeks to protect the country from Russian invaders and wants her children to live in a peaceful Ukraine.
32-year-old Yulia Kononenko hails from the village of Ripky, Chernihiv region, received her higher education at the Medical University named after O.O. Bogomoletsa in the specialty “pediatrics”. Then she went into internment and received the specialty of a doctor in emergency medicine.
“For 8 years I have been working as a specialty at the Center for Emergency Medicine and Disaster Medicine in Kyiv. I have three children,” says Yulia. “On February 24, 2022, our lives, like those of all Ukrainians, have changed dramatically. From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, I rushed to go to the front as a doctor, but my son was still very small. My husband is also a doctor, head of the training department at the same Center for Emergency Medicine and Disaster Medicine. Therefore, for the first four months he actually lived at work in Kiev, participated in the medical evacuation from Bucha. Now that our son has grown up, my husband has given me the opportunity to serve in Fury, because that is what my conscience and soul desire.”
The volunteer of the special forces notes that now all her acquaintances and the entire social circle are at the front. So she cannot stand aside and seeks, together with like-minded people, to defend her country from the invaders.
“I'm going to do what I need to do and what I've been studying for all these years. I am aware of all the difficulties of the future service. As for physical training, I was actively involved in sports with a coach. I paid the main attention to strength exercises, because it is necessary for me to work... Plus, I know what it's like to carry patients on my own, with the forces of my team. I know it's going to be hard, but I'm ready for it. I know where I'm going. This is my conscious choice — to make every effort for our Victory,” Yulia Kononenko continues.
