How to get a child's passport with a foreign birth certificate

After the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine, millions of our citizens were forced to leave their homes and go abroad. Among them were many pregnant women who gave birth to children already in other countries. So at the moment they have a lot of questions about the documents for the little ones.

Is it possible to issue a passport for a child born abroad without returning to Ukraine? - Yes. To do this, it is important to know the following:
- Where can I get the service? - You can get a passport abroad in the centers of the “Passport Service” and in foreign diplomatic institutions.
- What to do if the mother's passport is expired or the photo card is not pasted? - In this case, you can simultaneously issue an ID card for the mother and a passport for the child. To do this, abroad you need to contact the centers “Passport Service”.
- What to do if the father is a foreigner? - In this case, you need to contact a foreign diplomatic institution for a certificate of registration of a person as a citizen of Ukraine. The registration period is 3 months. Then, with this certificate, you can issue a passport both in the ZDU and in the centers “Passport Service”.
- What to do with a foreign birth certificate? - It is necessary to make an official translation and notarize it. Also, for legalization, the certificate may require affixing an apostille, unless otherwise provided for by law or international treaty of Ukraine, according to the Law of Ukraine “On Private International Law”.
- Is it necessary to take the child with you? - Not necessary, but in this case you need to have a photo of the child 10x15cm with you to make a digitized face image. Such a photo must meet a number of requirements.
- What is the cost of registration? - The cost of a child abroad is the same as an adult. In the departments of the Migration Service it is 856 UAH or 1496 UAH (depending on the urgency). Centers “Passport Service” additionally charge a fee for the service services of the enterprise, which varies depending on the country.
