How not to fall into the trap of fraudsters during online shopping - recommendations of cyberpolice
On the Internet you can buy anything. Simple, convenient and fast. However, it is worth remembering that there are risks of falling into the trap of scammers, because the sale of non-existent goods is the most common fraud scheme in the virtual space.
Most often, attackers deceive citizens by selling non-existent goods on ad sites or in social networks. As a rule, in such cases, the main condition of purchase is full or partial payment. Fraud can also be indicated by a significantly lower price of the goods compared to similar offers.
Another common scheme of scammers is the creation of phishing resources that look like popular online stores. Paying on such sites, the buyer not only remains without the desired goods, but also “transfers” the bank card data to the fraudster. In the future, possessing such information, attackers seize money from citizens' accounts.
Cyberpolice recommends following tips for safe online shopping:
- buy and pay only on proven resources and make sure the site URL is correct. Even the slightest discrepancy may mean that the user has fallen into a phishing site;
- give preference to cash on delivery to minimize the risks of fraudulent misappropriation of money;
- do not tell anyone your bank card details (especially CVV code and validity period);
- for online shopping, it is better to have a separate Internet card and transfer to it only the amount necessary for payment;
- in case of purchase on the ad platform, discuss the details of the transaction only in the chat of this platform and do not go to third-party messengers: attackers can send phishing links there.
