I want people to see what a heavy price victory is given to us — special police officer Roman Khimeichuk
From the first days of a full-scale invasion, the novel became a defense of the native land. On his account about 30 successfully completed combat missions. The soldier of the special purpose regiment “Safari” began to shoot videos from the front and post them on the social network.
On February 24, when the first shelling began, Roman took his family to a safer place, and he himself defended the Motherland. He joined the Safari Regiment and received the callsign “Warsaw”. It is with this city that he has many warm memories. Before the war, the policeman lived in Poland for eight years, where he was engaged in boxing.
“I never thought that I would change my boxing gloves for a machine gun, get into the Safari regiment, get into the war. I knew I had to do something, there was such a duty to the Motherland, an obligation to myself.”
It was at this time, after the successful clearing of the cities of Irpin and Bucha, that the regiment was transferred to Kharkiv region. A Special Purpose Regiment fighter recalls that it was the most difficult day of his life. He and his brothers were under heavy fire for 12 hours.
“We couldn't raise our heads. When there was a “rollback”, I don't know thanks to what miracle, but we managed to get out of position. It was really hard. But on that day, all of us soldiers became warriors.”
The novel tells that the first days of the war were tempered, taught to quickly assess the situation and act instantly, and then successfully carry out combat tasks.
“All combat tasks are difficult, but the first was probably the most difficult. Near the road it was necessary to stop a column of Russian troops. We literally brought a lot of tar, mines on our backs. We left these “surprises” under the “very noses” of the enemies. We advanced through the forest, across the river with a lot of battle kits to carry. And in addition, we still crossed paths with DRG groups.”
Then the regiment was transferred to Zaporizhia. Safari did not allow the Russian military to gain a foothold in the occupied settlements. The assault regiment entered positions, “worked” the area from mortars and moved forward.
Roman has about 30 successfully completed tasks. He is confident that these victories in battles became possible thanks to the cohesion of the team and the professionalism of the team.
Safari is a very powerful commander's skeleton. These are our commanders with callsigns - “Frenchman”, “Concrete”, “Cascade”. These are People with a capital letter. Strong people attract strong people. Thanks to them, we have created a powerful team. It's inspiring, you want to be around people like that.”
And it was the brothers who pushed Roman to post a video in TikTok. In his free time, he saw how his brothers watched videos on the social network. At first he took it as entertainment, but later began to make videos about the war and teach them.
“I want people to see what war is, what a heavy price victory is given to us.”
The novel says with sadness that it is most painful for him to see the tired eyes of children and the elderly in the settlements liberated from the Russian invaders.
“The hardest thing is when you drive into broken villages and you see little kids running around dirty, hungry. Pensioners - in whose eyes fear. It's hard to look at. Because you understand that they should have had a different childhood, a different old age.”
The “Safari” fighter, like all Ukrainians, lives with the idea of victory.
“We are a free nation. Our invulnerability is passed down from generation to generation. For our free life, the best sons of the country die. We are doing everything to win.”
