The morning of February 24 began for Sergei with three arrivals near the positions on which they were with his brothers. It was 5 in the morning, a platoon stronghold somewhere in the Luhansk region. Yes, says the guard, he met this war.

“We were on a planned rotation in the area of the Joint Forces operation. And here no one listened to any predictions or expert opinions about a full-scale invasion of the invaders. We were just prepared because we understood our role and place. And on the morning of the 24th I heard three attacks and realized that the war had begun.” For two days, the guard says, he and
his comrades maneuvered to take advantageous positions for defense. After all, only in films everything is very dramatic and bright, in fact, Sergei says, the most important thing is to have an advantageous and fortified position that allows you to successfully defend and successfully counterattack.

“Rubezhnoe became my outpost of this war. There we operated as part of the Ukrainian defense forces. We took the first powerful battle in early March. Then the enemy first worked out our positions from mortars, then enemy tanks went into battle. A fight broke out and there I received my first shrapnel wound.” Sergey spent
several weeks in rehabilitation, and then returned to his guys to new positions. At this time, the occupiers actively advanced in all directions on Rubizhne, equalizing the entire housing stock of the city with the land.

“We continued to maneuver the Frontier, inflicting numerous losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy. I remember one day, at the end of April, we made a group sortie at night to replenish ammunition supplies. It was about 11 p.m., and our raid was almost crowned with success. But literally a hundred meters before the position, a mine was dropped on us from a drone, and I was wounded a second time.”

Actually, after the second injury, the guard returned to Sumy region to recover. Now he is in service, performs border defense tasks. And a few weeks ago, for conscientious performance of military duty, Sergey was awarded a state award — the medal “For Military Service to Ukraine”

“For me, it is fundamentally important to eliminate this evil from our land. I have seen their methods, I have seen their attitude towards peaceful people. They carry death and destruction. By the way, this is how they relate to their own fighters. Repeatedly, we have seen with our own eyes how they left on the battlefield not only the bodies of their dead, but also those who were wounded and who could be given medical help. Therefore, we must liberate Ukraine from these invaders. And Luhansk and Donetsk region, and Kharkiv region, and my native Kherson region. And we will certainly do it, because our army and our people are invincible.”
