The volunteer battalion of the National Guard “Slobidska Sich” was also involved as part of the Ukrainian troops that carried out the counteroffensive. This is a newly created unit within the National Guard of Ukraine, which consists mainly of athletes, scientists, teachers and even deputies of the Kharkiv City Council.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, they have stood side by side with personnel servicemen to defend their native Kharkiv region from the invaders.

September 10 saw Russia's “stunning defeat” over the past 70 years. The Institute for the Study of War estimated that Ukrainian forces liberated approximately 2500 km2 during the Kharkov breakthrough.
