The Main Investigation Department, together with the Department of Criminal Analysis of the National Police of Ukraine, identified the identity of another Russian military man who raped a 55-year-old woman under threat of death in March 2022 — her and her loved ones.

At the time of the full-scale Russian invasion, the victim and her family were in the city of Mariupol, hiding from shelling in the basement of a high-rise building.

The place of their hiding place included representatives of the illegal military formation of the so-called “ldnr”. Under the pretext of checking documents, one of them led a woman into an apartment upstairs, where he raped, threatening to kill her and her relatives.

The victim remembered the name and appearance of the offender. In her words, the police made up a photobot of the suspect and checked almost half a hundred occupiers who were illegally in late March - early April 2022 in the city. Mariupol, and could commit a crime in relation to the victim. It was among them that the woman recognized her abuser.

He was a 51-year-old native of the city of Tyumen, who had previously been repeatedly prosecuted in Russia, and since 2014 has been involved in illegal paramilitary formations.

On the basis of the data received by the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General of the occupier, a suspicion of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with cruel treatment of the civilian population (Part 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

We remind you that the investigation of war crimes in the de-occupied territories is ongoing, and the testimony of witnesses and victims is a decisive factor in their effective documentation and identification of war criminals.

Sexual violence during a war conflict is the most latent of war crimes: victims fear retribution from their abusers and public condemnation.

Specially for dealing with such cases, two specialized departments have been created on the basis of the Main Investigation Department: organization of investigation and documentation of war crimes. The same specialized investigative units are working effectively in nine areas adjacent to the combat zone — including Donetsk.

Their staff has all the necessary tools and skills to work with victims of war crimes and, if necessary, involve psychologists and other professionals in cooperation, guaranteeing applicants complete confidentiality.
