The head of the National Police met with the leadership of the Research Forum of representatives of the US police
The parties discussed the specifics of the work of the National Police of Ukraine in the conditions of martial law and further joint steps to ensure cooperation.
According to Chuck Wexler, director general of the Police Representative Research Forum, this organization was created in the United States almost half a century ago. Its task is to provide management services, technical assistance and training of senior staff in the field of support of law enforcement agencies. Representatives of the Research Forum of police representatives have been following the events in Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale war.
“We really admire the work that police officers do every day. We, as police officers, understand how great the burden is on the police in peacetime. And the way you work during the war is fascinating. Our task here is to help you,” said Chuck Wexler, head of the Police Research Forum.
In turn, Igor Klymenko noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the functions of the police have expanded significantly. An important and massive direction in the work of investigators and forensics was added — the collection of evidence of Russian war crimes.
“We learned to document war crimes in the process. And now our investigators, forensics have tremendous experience. They undergo specialized training with the participation of specialists in international criminal law. Police forces alone documented more than 57.5 thousand war crimes. Of course, we work actively in other areas - fighting crime, demining and carrying out stabilization measures in de-occupied territories, evacuation of the population from areas of active hostilities. There is a lot of work, but we are coping,” said the head of the National Police.
At the end of the meeting, Igor Klymenko and the leadership of the Research Forum of police representatives agreed on further cooperation. It will consist in obtaining technical assistance and opportunities for the rehabilitation of injured police officers.
