Interior Minister Igor Klymenko and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan Matsuda Kuninori discussed Ukraine's support against the background of the Russian invasion
Today, May 4, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine held a meeting of Minister Igor Klymenko with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Matsuda Kuninori.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Matsuda Kuninori delivered to the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine a message on the future cooperation between the departments from the Chairman of the National Security Commission and the General of the National Police of Japan.
“Let me express my respect and gratitude to all representatives of your Ministry for the efforts you are making to maintain security and law and order. And especially taking into account the recent intensified missile attacks, unjustified on the part of the aggressor. We understand that you have to take more serious and active actions in this direction,” Matsuda Kuninori said.
In turn, the Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko thanked his Japanese colleagues for the comprehensive support of Ukraine against the background of a full-scale Russian invasion and stressed that without the support of the G7 member countries and Japan itself, it would be much more difficult for our country to repel the aggressor. In addition, the Head of the Department informed Matsuda Kuninori about the latest attacks by the Russian army:
“In recent weeks, the number of attacks on civilian infrastructure facilities has increased. In total, the number of attacks on Ukraine has doubled. Yesterday, May 3, more than 20 people were killed in Kherson and more than 40 were injured. Tonight, Ukrainians also heard the work of air defense, including in the capital.”
Igor Klymenko stressed that the support of the international community gives Ukraine strength and inspiration to fight the enemy:
“This meeting demonstrates confidence in our institutions, in particular the Ministry of the Interior. We will do everything we can to stop the enemy together and maintain the trust in us that we have today.”
The parties then discussed ways to support Ukraine, in particular in the field of humanitarian demining of Ukraine. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan Matsuda Kuninori said that last week the official Tokyo handed over to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine the necessary equipment for demining the de-occupied territories.
“This is our fundamental position and policy on humanitarian demining. This is the biggest priority not only this year and next, but for many years to come. We are ready to work with you in this direction. For our part, we perfectly understand that it will take a very long time to defund the territory of Ukraine and we are ready for this support from our side,” Matsuda Kuninori assured.
According to him, Japan is ready to continue to provide Ukraine with equipment and vehicles to solve this issue. In addition, official Tokyo is considering sending its own specialists to Ukraine.
The second direction of cooperation between Ukraine and Japan is the identification of the bodies of the dead within the framework of the investigation of war crimes of the Russian Federation. Matsuda Kuninori said that more than 20 mobile DNA laboratories have already been provided to Ukraine. In addition, Japan is ready to accept Ukrainian specialists for training in this area this summer. Also, the Japanese police plan to provide Ukraine with specialized vehicles and equipment.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed mutual appreciation for the constructive dialogue and hope for further effective and effective cooperation.
