Every year, Ukraine celebrates the winners of the All-Ukrainian action “Rescuer Hero of the Year”. It was introduced on the Day of the Rescuer, which is celebrated on September 17. Thanks to this action, ordinary citizens who showed courage and heroism during the rescue of people, property, the elimination of fires, accidents, emergencies, natural disasters receive honors.

The action takes place with the participation of the President of Ukraine. This year, the winners of the All-Ukrainian action “Rescuer Hero of the Year” were seven residents of different regions of Ukraine.

One of the winners Miroslav Kurilyak is a 37-year-old private entrepreneur. He rescued a 6-year-old boy and his 70-year-old grandmother during a fire.

On April 13, 2023, a fire broke out in one of the residential buildings of Ivano-Frankivsk. In the apartment on the second floor of the 9-storey building, household items caught fire.

The area of ignition was 2 square meters. 17 firefighters and four units of equipment were involved to eliminate the fire.

However, even before the arrival of rescuers, Miroslav provided assistance to the residents of the apartment.

“Hearing the cry of the child and seeing the boy from the windows, I realized that the apartment was on fire. I asked the boy to cover his mouth with a cloth and open the door for me,” Miroslav recalls.

When the little one opened the door, the man saw his grandmother, who was completely smoky. Miroslav carried the victim out of the burning house in his arms.

In addition, the man managed to save the boy's pet.

The stories of the “Heroes of the Year” Yuriy Vasetsky, Oleksandr Prykodko and Vasyl Chepovyk will be found tomorrow on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
