Second anniversary of the liberation of Bucha: police identify more than a thousand invaders, and more than 100 war criminals
March 31 is the second anniversary of the liberation of Bucha from the invaders. Two years ago, the de-occupied Bucha became the first large-scale evidence of the brutal atrocities of the Rashists that shook the whole world.
The city was occupied for 28 days. Abduction, torture, rape, looting and murder of civilians, including children, is not a complete list of what the Russian military has done there during this time. Ukrainian police have carefully documented these war crimes for the International Criminal Court.
Investigators of the National Police have already interviewed hundreds of witnesses and victims, conducted hundreds of interrogations, experiments and inspections of the scene, studied terabytes of data from external surveillance cameras. This made it possible to obtain a huge amount of information about the units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation that were in the city of Bucha: full personal data, data on positions held, division by platoons and departments, information about weapons and equipment, places of residence, contact phones and data of relatives.
“The police have already identified more than a thousand Russian servicemen who invaded Bucha at the end of February 2022,” says Ivan Dulkay, senior investigator of the National Police in especially important cases. “The information received allowed us to impose the routes of the occupiers with a specific time and place, and this, in turn,, made it possible to identify the location of a specific unit at the scene of a crime at the time of its commission. We were able to disassemble the complete structure of the strike groups of the occupiers of the so-called BTGR (battalion-tactical groups), the structure of their leadership, types and distinctions of equipment and weapons.”
Investigators have already established more than a hundred military Russian occupation troops who directly committed war crimes in Bucha. Moreover, they already know every Russian commander who gave criminal orders to destroy Bucha and its inhabitants.
All this time, the police not only document the actions of the enemy, but also study his tactics and way of thinking. They try to model the behavior, goals and desires of the Russians in order to understand the causes of such mass crimes.
With such knowledge, the police were able to find characteristic patterns of behavior - their analysis leads to the conclusion that the killings in the city of Bucha were not the uncontrolled behavior of individual soldiers.
“We see a clear connection between those teams of the heads of units of the Russian Armed Forces and the large number of those killed in the city,” says Ivan Dulkay. “And we are making every effort to make the Russians answer for every Ukrainian tear, and this connection was proven and framed as an indictment the top leadership of the armed forces of the Russian Federation in court”.
In Ukraine, it was the police who initiated more than 116 thousand criminal proceedings on the facts of Russian war crimes in Ukraine, of which 23 thousand were committed in the Kiev region. This was announced today, on the second anniversary of Bucha's liberation, Deputy Head of the National Police — Chief of the Criminal Police Andrey Nevitov on the TV channel “Yedini Novosti” on the TV channel “Rada”.
