“A friend asks for a loan in the messenger”: the police explained how not to get hooked on scammers
If you received such a message on the social network, do not rush: make sure that your friend really needs financial help.
Today we continue to talk about the most common fraudulent schemes. And among these: messages in various messengers from acquaintances or close people who ask to urgently drop money on the card. Often scammers hide behind such sms.
So we suggest that you remember a few security rules so that attackers do not succeed in deceiving you:
— call a friend by a number that you know exactly, and not by what is indicated on the page in social networks. Remember: if the fraudster hacked the page, he could change the phone number in the profile;
— ask a friend that you can know only if such a question will immediately expose the fraudster;
— write to mutual friends in social networks and ask if they have received such messages from a person who asks you for financial help. Fraudsters, as a rule, simultaneously send a newsletter to all subscribers of the hacked page.
In addition, we encourage you to protect your accounts from possible hacking. This can be done like this:
— Create strong, complex passwords and don't use one password for multiple resources. The password must contain at least 8 characters, letters, numbers and special characters. If possible, update passwords to accounts and on email inboxes;
— enable two-factor authentication wherever there is such a possibility: to log in to the account, in addition to the login and password, you will need to enter a confirmation code that comes to your phone, email or the corresponding application;
— do not follow dubious hyperlinks, even if they came from a friend. Remember: if his account is hacked, attackers can send links behind which a virus or phishing resource hides.
