The Norwegian Defense Logistics Agency (NDMA, Ministry of Defense of Norway) has handed over two specialized military ambulance buses for medical evacuation to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine. The transfer of vehicles was part of NATO's Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine.

The military ambulance buses have modern medical equipment that allows the intensive care teams to work autonomously with three seriously injured patients. They can also transport 4 more lying and 8 sitting patients under medical supervision at the same time.

Prior to the transfer of the vehicles, the technical staff from the medical institutions of the National Guard of Ukraine and State Border Guard Service of Ukraine underwent training abroad on the operation and maintenance of the buses and the equipment installed on them. They also learned how to accommodate and transport the injured, taking into account their condition.

This NATO assistance project also includes maintenance of the ambulance buses for three years, a two-year subscription to the Starlink satellite communications systems installed on them, and the delivery of medical supplies.

Previously, Norway has bilaterally handed over five military ambulance buses to Ukraine. Therefore, this project will strengthen interoperability between different ministries and agencies of Ukraine and promote the implementation of common standards in evacuation and first aid for the injured.

For reference.

NATO's Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP) for Ukraine is the main framework for practical cooperation between the Alliance and Ukraine. The updated CAP was adopted at the Madrid Summit in 2022. At the Vilnius Summit in July 2023, Allies agreed to transform the CAP into a long-term program of NATO support to Ukraine, meeting short-, medium- and long-term needs. At the Washington Summit in 2024, Allies announced a commitment to long-term security assistance to Ukraine and plan to provide €40 billion in funding over the next year.
