Domestic violence is not just about beatings
People who engage in relationship violence use a variety of methods and are not limited to one physical violence. To gain power and control in the relationship, they act through fear by taking advantage of the partner's weaknesses. Often this is expressed in intentional intimidation, physical attacks, threats, sexual harassment, and so on.
Violence is any intentional act against a person that violates his rights and freedoms, causes damage to moral, physical or mental health.
Today, Ukrainian realities often speak of four main types of violence: physical, economic, psychological and sexual.
Physical violence is when you are hit, pushed; obstructed free movement; create situations that may endanger your life or health; you are threatened with weapons or other objects that can cause physical harm; you are deprived of assistance during illness or pregnancy.
Economic violence — depriving you of food or water; damaging or breaking personal property; illegally restricting access to housing or depriving you of housing; seizing your own funds, belongings; forced to beg, forbid or force to work, and forbidden to study;
Psychological violence — threaten murder, mutilation; completely control; despise as a person; threaten to take away children; persecute, intimidate, harass, blame everything; It is worth distinguishing between psychological violence and domestic quarrels.
An offense is the deliberate and sustained use of one's own advantage and control over the victim, not an accidental insult or misunderstanding.
Sexual violence — forced to engage in prostitution; forced to engage in unwanted sexual relations; inadmissibly joking by uttering phrases with sexual overtones.
The National Police constantly operates mobile response teams for domestic violence. Today, there are 86 of them in operation throughout Ukraine. They work in 67 cities. Where there are no such units, other police officers work.
