32 diplomatic missions returned to Kyiv, NGU revised the scheme of protection of such facilities
Starting from the first days of the full-scale invasion of Russia, the NGU is involved in the implementation of combat tasks, together with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, at the same time, the National Guard continues to perform a number of other tasks. In particular, the protection of diplomatic missions and consular agencies.
This was stated by Vitaliy Stetsyk, commander of the 22nd Separate Brigade for the Protection of Diplomatic Missions and Consular Offices of Foreign States, during a briefing at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center.
“Every day more and more diplomatic missions return to Ukraine and the capital to resume work. At the moment, 32 diplomatic missions have already returned to the capital. Despite the absence of diplomats, the National Guards continued to guard and defend the representations of other states. Currently, the brigade is guarded by more than 100 diplomatic missions and consular institutions,” he said.
With the beginning of the military aggression, the NGU revised the scheme of protection and defense of facilities and significantly increased forces and means, as well as added patrols on armored vehicles. The personnel are armed with small arms, both near and far, and reinforced with anti-tank means to neutralize enemy armored vehicles.
“The soldiers of the brigade repeatedly assisted law enforcement officers and the SBU in the detention of both sabotage groups and their individual representatives, correctors, as well as in preventing the implementation of aerial reconnaissance of enemy drones by destroying them,” Vitaly Stetsyk added.
The commander of the 22nd Separate Brigade for the Protection of Diplomatic Missions and Consular Offices of Foreign Countries said that units of the brigade accompanied columns of diplomatic representatives and members of their families when they were forced to leave Ukraine or change location due to the war unleashed by Russia:
“The entire civilized world helps us in confronting an insidious enemy, and diplomats play an important role in this process. Today, more than ever, we realize that the authority of our state at the international level depends on the quality of performance of the military tasks assigned to the brigade.”
