“Children of heroes”: 7-year-old Sasha Pascal lost a leg due to Russian shelling, but did not lose her thirst for victory
On June 12, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine awarded 8 children within the framework of the charity action “Children Heroes”. The purpose of the action is to celebrate children who showed themselves during the war, help the Ukrainian army or suffered from the aggression of the Russian invaders.
One of the participants of the event was a 7-year-old girl from Chernomorsk - Alexandra Pascal. The army of the Russian Federation mutilated the child, but not her dreams and thirst for life.
In May 2022, the Pascal family came to Zatok, Odessa region on business. It was an ordinary warm day, until loud sounds of explosions were heard in the village - these were the “arrival” of Russian missiles.
One of the missiles hit the room where little Sasha and her mother were. When rescuers arrived at the scene of the tragedy, they began to search among the rubble for a girl who, fortunately, was breathing, but was unconscious.
Alexandra Pascal spent about 15 days in a coma, says her mother Maria. The wreckage from the rocket mutilated the girl's arm, and the leg had to be amputated. But most of all Sasha was worried about whether she would be able to return to the business of her life - rhythmic gymnastics.
However, perseverance and thirst for sports were stronger than injury. Several months of rehabilitation, prosthetics of the leg, periods of phantom pain, rejection of the situation and struggle: in this mode the Pascal family had to live. But parents did everything to make Sasha feel happy.
And then in a few months, Sasha opened the door to the gym, where rhythmic gymnastics training takes place.
Now the 7-year-old athlete is engaged on a par with everyone, despite the fact that instead of one leg she has a prosthesis. She skillfully learned to live with him and continues to believe that Olympic gold will be hers.
Oleksandra Pascal recently took first place with a solo number at the gymnastics championship in Chernomorsk.
We are proud of our Ukrainian children! The stories of the winners of the charity action “Children Heroes” will be published every Sunday on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
