This was emphasized by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine during negotiations with the delegation of the International Organization for Migration, headed by IOM Deputy Director General for Operations Ugochi Daniels.

At the beginning of the event, the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs thanked the representatives of the IOM, which is part of the UN system, for the humanitarian assistance provided to Ukraine against the background of a full-scale Russian invasion. In particular, Igor Klymenko noted the organization's help in overcoming the consequences of the subversion by the occupiers of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant. According to him, the comprehensive support of partners helped the country in 1.5 months to cope with the most acute problems arising from this disaster.

The Minister of Internal Affairs also informed the partners that despite the constant attacks of the enemy, Ukraine is already working on creating a safe environment after the end of the war:

“We have more than 6 million Ukrainians abroad. We also have 5 million displaced people in our country. Therefore, with the support of the President of Ukraine, we are already working to bring our people home as soon as possible after the end of the war. We are already preparing for peaceful life, and we are preparing a number of relevant draft laws.”

In turn, IOM Deputy Director-General for Operations Ugochi Daniels assured that the organization will continue to assist Ukraine in the face of all future challenges that await Ukraine due to the war and after its end.

“We are aware of all the challenges your country has faced, including through forced migration. However, we will continue to support Ukraine and help return families home. We have already received a list of your urgent needs and will do everything in our competence in this direction. In particular, we will support you on the program with integrated border management in accordance with EU requirements,” said Ugochi Daniels.

Igor Klymenko noted that for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine it is extremely important to support and cooperate with international partners in the direction of improving the management system of migration processes in the context of the ongoing full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. According to him, the forced displacement of the population leads to an increased risk of aggravation of the security situation in large cities and regional centers of Ukraine.

He told representatives of the International Organization for Migration that in order to timely solve future problems in this issue in Ukraine, the Center for Strategic Planning has already been launched.

“We are really concerned about the sense of security of every citizen inside our country. This is related, in particular, to control the circulation of weapons and the protection of cyberspace. We want to build a security system from the border to every settlement of our country. It is for this purpose that we created the Center for Strategic Planning, because we have to be ready for any situation,” the Minister of Internal Affairs assured.

At the end of the meeting, the parties signed a new Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the International Organization for Migration.

“We have always tried to make our case speak for us. I would really like to say that within 1.5 years we were able to unite our partners on common values and we are talking more and more often about Ukraine after the war,” said the head of the IOM Mission in Ukraine An Nguyen at the end.
