Denis Monastyrsky: Control of Zaporizhzhya NPP is absent, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing for any scenarios
This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine during a working trip to Sumy region.
“At present, we can absolutely responsibly assert that there is no adequate control over the activities of the Zaporizhzhya NPP. Today, in fact, it is not only in the hands of the enemy, but also in the hands of unsuspected specialists who can really allow a tragedy. Those Ukrainian specialists who stayed there are partially not allowed to the sites where they should be. As you know, on the territory of the station today there is military equipment of the Russian Federation. All this is assessed as the highest level of threat,” Denis Monastyrsky said.
The Minister noted that the Ukrainian Government has already appealed to the IAEA to ensure proper control over this nuclear power plant.
“Speaking about the situation at the NPP, we all saw the shelling carried out by Russian troops on the power unit. It's horrible. Let me remind you that this is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, which has six power units. And it is difficult even to imagine the scale of the tragedy that could be if the Russians continue to remain there. After the recent shelling of the station, we made sure that there were no deterrents for them. They are ready for any action, regardless of the consequences. This suggests that already today we have to prepare for any scenarios,” the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine noted.
The Minister confirmed that already today the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the State Emergency Service and MinRegion, is discussing various scenarios, including the evacuation of the population of the surrounding settlements. Every nuclear facility has a clear, rigid plan of action in the event of an emergency.
