Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine: Roman Sobkiv was one of the first to defend the Motherland
October 1 is the Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine. We remember all those who gave their lives for the Freedom and Independence of our state. 32-year old Major Roman Sobkiv was one of the first to defend the Motherland. He was a group commander of the Special Purpose Detachment “Omega” of the National Guard of Ukraine.
The guard defended the Kiev region from the invaders, took part in fierce battles in the area of Guta Mezhyhirska. On March 12, 2022, in one of the firefights with the enemy, Major Roman Sobkiv remained in positions to cover the departure of his comrades. Left alone with the enemy, Major Roman Sobkiv continued to destroy him, but unfortunately in this fierce battle he died from multiple shrapnel wounds to his body.
At the cost of his own life, personally subduing the enemy's means of fire and life force, the brave warrior provided an opportunity for the personnel of the group to withdraw to a safe distance, regroup and return to battle.
The hero gave the most valuable - his own life, saving his brothers. The memory of heroic deeds must live forever in order to inspire others, to understand the whole value of life and the great price paid by every Ukrainian soldier who went to defend his Motherland and his relatives.
