The Czech Republic is the second country where you can exchange a Ukrainian driver's license
From February 28, Ukrainians can exchange their national driver's license in the Czech Republic. The service began to be provided with the help of mobile software and technical complexes of SE “Dokument” in the city of Prague.
The exchange of a driver's license is carried out when a person has a physical document that is withdrawn by an employee of the State Enterprise “Document”. Abroad, the service of renewal of the Ukrainian driver's license is not yet provided.
The following mobile software and technical complexes are located at: Prague, 110-00, Náměstí Republiky 656/8 (parking of Kotva shopping center).
The addresses of all citizen service centers “Passport Service” that provide services can be found on the official website of the enterprise. Service takes place both by appointment and in the “live queue” order.
Opening hours of the centers: Monday — Saturday from 9:00 to 18:00 local time; Sunday — day off. It is possible to exchange driver's licenses on Tuesday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. local time; Sunday and Monday - weekends.
When is the driver's license exchange service up to date?
- the validity period of the driver's license has expired — it is mainly relevant for licenses issued for the first time, since they have a validity of 2 years (the exchange takes place without passing exams, provided that there are no more than two administrative offenses in the field of road safety within two years from the date of issue of such a certificate);
- the driver's passport data has changed - the name or surname has changed - it is mainly relevant for persons who have married or vice versa and changed their surname;
- the certificate is outdated and the inscriptions on it are no longer read;
- at the request of the owner, obtain a certificate of modern design.
Previously, the same service of exchanging a Ukrainian driver's license for a Ukrainian one was available only in Poland. For two incomplete months of 2023, 3,445 driver's licenses have already been exchanged in 4 centers there and the demand for such a service does not decrease, therefore, coordinated decisions have been signed that allow expanding the geography of service provision through the centers of the Passport Service.
To receive the service, you must submit a package of documents:
- a passport of a citizen of Ukraine with the place of residence indicated in it, and if the passport is in the format of an ID-card without the available information on registration of the place of residence, then an extract on the registration of the person's place of residence is provided together;
- taxpayer certificate — “identification code”;
- an existing driver's license, which is subject to exchange;
- a document confirming the change of personal data (for example, marriage registration certificate, etc.) in case of change of such data.
How is the driver's license exchanged?
The exchange of driver's licenses in the SE “Dokument” in the Czech Republic takes place according to the same algorithm as in Poland: employees of State Enterprise “Document” receive a full package of documents from the client, photograph it and draw up an application for the exchange of a driver's license, which is considered in Ukraine by the administrator of the service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In case of successful consideration of the application, that is, approval of the procedure for exchanging a driver's license, a new document for a person is printed abroad on a special form, and the old one is withdrawn.
In general, a ready-made driver's license can be collected on the day of application, unless circumstances of force majeure have arisen in Ukraine, when processing is not possible. For example, during an air alert due to a missile threat on the territory of Ukraine, the processing of applications is not carried out.
If the existing certificate was issued before 2013, an additional request-confirmation of the validity of the certificate is made at the place of issue. The time for providing the service is increased by the time of receipt of a response to such a request. The legislation of Ukraine provides for a period of 5 days for the production of a new driver's license.
