On the occasion of the Day of the Border Guard of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky took part in the ceremony of awarding state awards and greeting the defenders of the Ukrainian border.
“It is an honor for me to congratulate you today on a professional holiday, the Day of the Border Guard of Ukraine. Steely and unbreakable border guard of Ukraine. Assessing how you defend our strong state, we can only thank you. You - heroes, warriors, border guards. I thank you for the superhuman strength with which the units of the border troops are fighting in the fiercest battles for Bakhmut, for Marianka and our other cities and villages of Donbas. Thank you for the determination with which you, our border guards, together with all the defense and security forces of Ukraine liberated our native Kiev region, our Kharkiv region, our Ukrainian Kherson, our northern regions of Ukraine. I thank you for your strong faith, faith in our country. The faith with which you destroyed the Russian occupier in the 14th year and when the full-scale invasion of the aggressor began,” Volodymyr Zelensky noted.
The President recalled that during the defense against Russian aggression, already 2193 border guards were awarded state awards, 11 of them were awarded the title “Hero of Ukraine”.
“Each such award is really a story, the story of the personal feat of our warrior and the story of the salvation of our entire state, the whole of Ukraine. Because the independence of Ukraine is not some kind of abstraction, but a very concrete result, which all those who fight for Ukraine, unfortunately, obtain for it at the cost of their own lives. 11 border guards, who were awarded the highest title “Hero of Ukraine”, 9 - unfortunately, posthumously,” the Head of State said.
The participants observed with a moment of silence the memory of all Ukrainian soldiers who gave their lives for the sake of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
For significant personal contribution to the cause of state border protection, courage and dedication shown in the protection of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, conscientious and impeccable service to the Ukrainian people, President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded 92 border guards with state awards, in particular with the Order “For courage” of the third degree, the medal “For military service to Ukraine”, the medal “For impeccable service” of the III degree, the medal “Defender of the Fatherland”.
In order to honor the courage and heroism shown during the protection of state sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity of Ukraine, the Head of State decided to award the 79 border detachment, 105 border detachment named after Prince Vladimir the Great with the honorary distinction “For courage and courage” and 10 mobile border detachment of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky stressed: “The main battles are coming soon, we have to free our land and our people from Russian captivity, we have to restore the full line of our state border both on land and at sea. I am sure that the heroism, reliability and resilience of our border troops will powerfully help Ukraine on this important historical path. I wish the Steel Frontier Assault Brigade and all of our Border Force unwavering strength and good luck in battle. Glory to all our Ukrainian soldiers border guards! Glory to all our heroes! Glory to Ukraine!”
At the same time, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko noted that it was the border guards who were the first to take the fight along the entire border line, when the enemy began a full-scale offensive.
