“BOARD 54”: the stories of pilots and civilians killed in a plane crash in Brovary
The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues the documentary project for the anniversary of the plane crash in Brovary “Bort 54”, in which it tells about all the victims of the tragedy.
In the terrible airstrike that occurred on January 18, 2023 in Brovary, the entire crew of the helicopter belonging to the special aviation detachment of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine died.
This is Oleksandr Vasylenko, the commander of the aircraft. Experienced Special Purpose Aviation Squadron Instructor on Helicopters. Alexander Vasilenko worked in UN peacekeeping missions in Liberia, participated in ATO.
Also on board were Konstantin Kovalenko — pilot of special purpose aviation squadron on helicopters and Ivan Kasyanov — flight mechanic of special purpose aviation squadron on helicopters, ensign of civil protection service.
“Our Vanya dreamed of heaven. It was for this that he went to serve in the State Emergency Service, received a second higher education in order to later fly as an on-board mechanic. The sky was his real delight” — recalls Ivan Valentina's mother.
The plane crash, which occurred on January 18, 2023, claimed the lives of four civilians — residents of Brovary. Among them are a 5-year-old girl and her mother, who were in kindergarten.
