We fight for every piece of our land - border guard Igor Basaliga
Before the full-scale invasion, the military Igor Basaliga guarded the western borders, but when the enemy came to his native land, he did not hesitate to defend his state. From the first days of the invasion, he defended the northern borders, and later went east, to the very hell - to Donetsk region.
“Our unit was sent to one of the hottest spots — Bakhmut. It was my first combat experience and I was very impressed with what was going on there. The distance between us and the enemy was minimal, but we withstood and were able to give a decent rebuff. There I understood that if we do not stop the enemy here, then this can happen in other cities of our country,” the border guard recalls.
Igor is a dog trainer and, having returned from the front line, continued to do his favorite thing, in order to guard the border in a pair with a four-legged partner.
He now has a new four-legged companion, Freya, with whom he masters skills in finding weapons and explosives.
“Freya is my second partner, she has become my consolation and psychological support. I used to have a detective dog with which we detained violators, and now, together with our new partner, we will look for explosives, which is very relevant now in wartime,” says the dog handler.
Above all, Igor dreams of Victory and liberation of all territories of Ukraine, so he is ready to fight for it to the end. Together to Victory!
