This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko in an interview with Natalia Moseychuk, which is timed to the second anniversary of the beginning of a full-scale war.

Answering the journalist's question about the legislation on weapons, which has not yet been adopted, and Ukrainians have many weapons in their hands due to the war, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stressed that the legislation will soon be finalized and adopted.

At the same time, he noted that we are talking about two bills. The first is the law on national resistance, which will determine the further fate of weapons acquired in some way, issued or trophy. The second is the law on civilian weapons, which is also being amended.

“Our goal is that any weapon that somehow gets into the hands of our citizens, including trophies, is not hidden somewhere for many years and then not used for criminal purposes or in political processes,” the Minister stressed.

He noted that after the adoption of the relevant law, citizens will have to report the availability of such weapons and within 90 days after the end of martial law hand them over to units of the National Police. In addition to the delivery of such weapons, the draft law plans to provide options for its neutralization — leaching, processing into permitted types of weapons, or business entities (enterprises or organizations) will be able to buy it.

“We also offer to surrender the trophy weapons that we took from the enemy. In particular, these are automatic weapons — automatic weapons. It is clear that the law after the war — these are grenade launchers, they must be handed over to the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system,” Igor Klymenko stressed in an interview.

The second law, the Minister noted, on civilian weapons will determine who can issue weapons and which ones. In particular, this also applies to short-barreled weapons (pistols).

“We have to make our country safe. To make weapons in the hands of our citizens understandable to other citizens,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
