Militant detained by border guards will spend 8 years behind bars
Pavlograd city district court of Dnipropetrovsk region sentenced a member of the terrorist organization “DNR”.
The court found that a citizen of Ukraine in order to participate in the force block of the terrorist organization “DPR”, being a person with military training (he served military service in the airmobile troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the period from November 23, 2007 to October 23, 2008), guided by personal beliefs, understanding the social danger of his actions and sharing the views of the participants of the specified terrorist organization, acting deliberately, with the aim of causing harm to the interests of Ukraine, not perceiving the state authorities of Ukraine, supporting separatist sentiments, for the purpose of personal enrichment, 04.08.2014 left the city. Odessa to m. Donetsk, where he joined one of the units of the terrorist organization “DPR”.
From August 2014 to March 2017, the accused participated in the escort of military equipment and leaders of the so-called illegal military formations. “DPR” and “LPR”, including the leadership of units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, on settlements of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. And later — in the personal protection of one of the leaders of the terrorist organization.
Since May 2016, he served as chief of intelligence. He received the military rank of “lieutenant”, was awarded the medal “For combat merits”. Monthly the accused received monetary security in the amount of 31,500 rubles of the Russian Federation.
“The accused in court said that on 14.08.2014 he was in the village. Stepanivka, near the border of the Russian Federation, saw Russian troops enter the border. On 17.09.2014, he was in the village of Spartak, where he and other persons guarded the “Grad”, after which the unit in which he was located shelled Donetsk airport. His task was to cover the “Grad” from ground attack. Later he traveled to the city. Snowy for the ammunition that the Russians gave them.
In October 2014, his group was transferred to the jet division, where he was given the title of “sergeant”. Since December 2014, they began to pay a salary of 1500 hryvnias every week, and then they began to pay in dollars. From 2016, he became chief of intelligence and received the rank of “lieutenant”. He was in illegal armed formations from 05.08.2014 to 30.03.2017, during his service he received the award “For Combat Merit”. Later, he wrote a report on the release and went to Moscow, from where he went to Odessa. During his stay on the territory of the DPR, he realized that the structures in which he served were illegal armed formations, not provided for by the legislation of Ukraine. He understood that he would be responsible for participating in illegal formations,” the court verdict reads.
The man was detained in April 2017 by the border guards of the Sumy detachment at the checkpoint for the railway connection “Konotop”, when he tried to enter Ukraine by train Moscow-Odessa. Regarding the detention of the man, the SBU was oriented. During communication with law enforcement officers, he confirmed that he was a member of an illegal armed formation. He admitted that he supported the organizers of the anti-Maidan in Odessa, and then out of curiosity went to Donetsk.
The court found the Odessa resident guilty of the crime stipulated in Part 1 of Art. 2583 of the Criminal Code “Creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization” and assigned him a sentence of eight years imprisonment with confiscation of property other than housing.
In addition, the accused must pay for the benefit of the state the costs of conducting a forensic portrait examination in the amount of 989 hryvnias 60 kopecks.
Until the sentence becomes legal force, he will be in custody.
