Soldiers from the National Guard were awarded medals “For the defense of Chernihiv”
Chernihiv celebrated the National Guardsmen who played a significant role during the defense of the city of Chernihiv in February-March 2022.
At the beginning of the event, all those present with a moment of silence honored the memory of the defenders of our state and civilians who tragically died as a result of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.
“I want to thank everyone for unhesitatingly defending my hometown, its residents and Ukraine as a whole. The defenders of Chernihiv restrained the invasion, which greatly outnumbered the enemy forces, and prevented the advance of the enemy into the interior of the country. It was an honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with you. I am also very grateful to the local authorities for the respect and support of our military unit,” Colonel Igor Orinko, commander of the military unit, addressed the guards.
It should be noted that the medals “For the Defense of Chernihiv” are a special award of the city community for military and civilians who made a significant contribution to the defense of Chernihiv in February-March 2022.
Also, the National Guards honored the memory of Andrei Shansky, who died heroically in the east of the country. The serviceman died while performing combat duties as part of the combined detachment of the Northern ATO NGU on September 5, 2014 near the village of Telmanove, Donetsk region.
After holding a memorial service, the attendees honored the memory of Andriy Shansky with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the warrior's grave.
Ukraine and its people will always remember their heroic sons and daughters, eternal memory to the Heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine! Eternal Glory to them!
