Scammers under the guise of bots of leading companies: cyber police warn of a new scheme
Cyber police warned about fraud under the guise of fake bots of leading Ukrainian organizations.
Law enforcers found that attackers in instant messengers create bot clones and phishing links allegedly to the resources of leading Ukrainian organizations, in particular energy companies. The ultimate goal of fraudsters is to collect the confidential data of users in order to appropriate their savings.
Attackers lure authorization data from citizens to log into accounts, and use assigned accounts to automatically send content with phishing links to all contacts.
In addition, scammers can distribute their own content in shared chats and groups. This can be the advertising of fake goods or services at attractive prices, the provision of social benefits from the state, etc.
The main goal of scammers is to convince the victim to follow the link and enter financial data on the controlled phishing resource. In this way, attackers gain access to online banking and seize citizens' savings.
Cyberpolice urges citizens to be vigilant and follow the following tips:
- set up two-factor authentication in all social networks and messengers where possible;
- before using bots, always pay attention to the link: a difference of even one letter means that you fell on a fake resource;
- Do not disclose to third parties the confirmation codes that come in SMS messages or directly to the application;
- regularly view connected devices and active sessions in instant messengers;
- get information, especially about financial payments, only from official sources;
- do not follow dubious hyperlinks;
- Do not disclose confidential information, including bank card details, to third parties.
- when disclosing payment information - immediately contact the bank and block the card.
