“Adrenaline went out of scale, because there was less than 25 km to the native land,” — Vitaliy Kharkivskyi, a police officer from Luhansk region
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine, the law enforcement officer served in Severodonetsk and Lysychansk until the occupation of the cities. At the same time, Vitaly's beliefs and chosen life path before Victory are unchanged: Luhansk region, Donetsk region, Kherson region, Zaporizhia, Crimea are Ukraine.
Since 2010, the Kharkov pseudo law enforcement officer has been fighting: first with criminals involved in crimes related to human trafficking, and now defends Ukraine. Police Lieutenant Colonel, Deputy Head of the Migration Police Department Vitaliy Kharkivskyi — a participant of the Anti-Terrorist Operation and Joint Forces Operation, now together with the Security and Defense Forces continues to stand in defense of the territorial integrity and independence of our state.
“In 2014, we, the police, gained new professional experience. Then in Luhansk we faced not only armed mass riots, but also found ourselves in the very epicenter of hostilities,” Vitaly recalls.
Since then, the delivery of humanitarian aid, the evacuation of the population, the escort of volunteers, the provision of assistance, the detection of correctors and looters - all these have become the daily affairs of the policeman:
“Once we were driving to Severodonetsk with foreign volunteers, when suddenly a girl ran out onto the road and started stopping us. As it turned out, her grandfather was wounded in the shelling and needed help, and at that time there were no doctors left in the city. So we went up to the apartment, examined the man, gave him first aid and evacuated him to a medical facility in Lisichansk.”
During the de-occupation of Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, Vitaliy Kharkivskyi, together with colleagues from the investigative department, joined the “West” police battalion. They followed the military into the liberated settlements of Kharkiv and Donetsk region, where they were engaged in the detection of DRG, Russian servicemen who did not have time to escape, as well as found stretch marks, examined households and provided necessary assistance to the locals.
“We went on a crazy adrenaline rush and enthusiasm because we realized that there were less than 25 kilometers left on the way to our native land. Almost every settlement was completely destroyed, so we went into ruins. After all, when the Russians were entrenched somewhere, they destroyed everything. The invaders clogged our territory not only with themselves, but also with stretch marks. It was extremely important for us to protect both the local population and ourselves from their explosive “gifts”, - recalls Kharkiv.
For now, Vitaly's struggle continues, and his native land inspires and gives strength to resist the horde of Russians.
