9 border detachment named after the Sichovy Sagittarius — 22 years in the protection of the northern borders
Today, June 20, the 9th border detachment named after the Sichov Striltsy (Zhytomyr border detachment — at the beginning of its foundation) celebrates the 22nd anniversary of its creation.
In a relatively short period of time, the Border Patrol has become one of the most powerful state border guards. Border guards of the legendary detachment guard the state border within the three regions of Kiev, Zhytomyr and Rivne with a total length of more than 634 km, which is one of the largest sections of the border, the inviolability of which is ensured by the state border guard. In addition, the detachment has a border with a river section, and part of the state border passes through the area damaged by the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
For more than two decades, the 9th Border Patrol has repeatedly distinguished itself in the detention of illegal migrants, smuggled goods, violators of the state border and the border regime. The servicemen ensured compliance with the legislation of Ukraine both on the border line and on the border territory. However, the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine from the territory of Belarus has made its adjustments. One of the routes of the occupiers to the capital ran through a section guarded by the border units of the detachment. The defenders were among the first to take up the battle with the overwhelming forces of the enemy and with their decisive actions they won time to conduct counteroffensive actions by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. And as a result of coordinated actions, the enemy from the north of our State was defeated. Ukraine has survived!
However, the invader has not yet been defeated. And today, one of the units of the detachment courageously performs the task of protecting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the eastern direction, in one of the hottest areas of the front, demonstrating high professionalism and devotion to the Motherland.
The personnel of the border detachment was one of the first to strengthen the border with Russia and perform tasks as part of the combined moto-maneuvered groups and strongholds on the site of the Luhansk and Donetsk border detachments, which participated in the anti-terrorist operation in 2014. In general, during the ATO and the PLO, more than 75% of the detachment's personnel took part in them. For the selfless performance of the assigned tasks, the initiative, skill, endurance and courage, the personnel of the part was repeatedly encouraged by state and departmental awards.
Today, the personnel of the military unit continue to confidently fulfill the tasks of protection and defense of the state borders of Ukraine.
