7 days he defended Bakhmut without sleep, rest and food - the story of the border guard Alexander
So the border guard Alexander recalls the defense of Bakhmut. He fought twice in this direction. For the first time in 2017. And when I came in for the second time last year, I was horrified by what I saw. So devastated and devastated was the city.
Alexander is 33 years old, he is from Sumy region, and has been serving in the Chernivtsi border patrol for more than 10 years. When the Russian invaders came to our land, he without hesitation stood up for the defense of the country. He fought in Bakhmut. First from 2017 to 2020, later — during a full-scale invasion.
Alexander and his comrades on May 7 took up positions and fought back the enemy for a week. 7 days without sleep, food and rest. Those were hellish days. Alexander recalls that the enemy wanted to carry out a large-scale assault and flaunt his results on May 9. To do this, Bakhmut had to be under the control of the invaders. The forces were uneven, the Russian horde came and advanced.
“They took up the defense in the city itself, held them for a week as long as they could, held as long as they could. I can't even explain how many of them there were, by what inhuman forces they wanted to take the city. There are, and here once - there are no, there are 20 people again, everything, we have already done so that they do not exist. And they climb again, at first it was fear, because what it's like to shoot people, but then you realize: either you or they will survive. I realized that you can just not sleep for a week, the main thing is that there is glucose in the blood and you work, and stress. Under stress, you are unlikely to fall asleep when you shoot, you are shot, there is no time to sleep. In them, everything starts at 4 in the morning, when it becomes clear,” recalls the border guard.
In one of the battles, when the enemy was less than 10 meters away, an armored vest saved the life of the border guard.
“I fell, got up, immediately put my hands under the bulletproof vest, everything is whole, there is no blood, I think maybe some stone flew away. Then, when we were evacuating at the stabilization point in the hospital, I take off the armor, remove the plates, and I have a hole in the plate, as it turned out, a hole from an automatic shot, so we have good body armor that can withstand a bullet from a machine gun,” he says Alexander.
At home, Alexander is waiting for his parents, wife and two children. Alexander is convinced: the prayers of his relatives, faith in him - helped to survive. For each successful battle, the warrior is repeatedly awarded, however, he says that the greatest reward for him will be Victory. Alexander has a lot of plans. In particular, he dreams of visiting Bakhmut again when the city is free and rebuilt.
