5 million hryvnias of illegal profit and about 50 deceived people: the police stopped the activities of a large-scale criminal group of fraudsters — Igor Klymenko
According to the head of the National Police, the attackers posted fake ads on the network about the sale of various goods, as well as offers to deliver cars from abroad at favorable prices. A prerequisite for the provision of the service was a subscription. However, neither the car nor the customers received their money.
Criminal investigation officers together with investigators of the Khmelnytsky region police under the procedural leadership of the Khmelnytsky Regional Prosecutor's Office exposed a criminal group formed on an ethnic basis, which sought people from different regions of Ukraine. Among more than half a hundred deceived citizens there are residents of Khmelnytsky, Kiev, Odessa and Poltava regions.
“Among the victims of such fraudulent actions are about 10 soldiers and volunteers who wanted to purchase transport for the front,” Igor Klymenko said.
The police of the Khmelnytsky region established that the criminal group has 18 participants. They were gathered together by a 54-year-old Khmelnitsky resident.
Attackers posted fake ads on the network and in various ways lured prepayments from their victims. As soon as the money from the client came to the card, the fraudsters disappeared from contact.
“At the places of residence of the defendants, law enforcement officers have already conducted 35 searches, during which they seized dozens of mobile phones, more than 30 bank cards of various banks, almost half a million hryvnias in cash in different currencies and 5 premium cars,” the head of the National Police said.
According to preliminary estimates, losses exceed 5 million hryvnias.
At the moment, three members of the organized crime group have already been notified of suspicion of committing the offense provided for in Part 4 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud committed by an organized criminal group) and detention was chosen as a precautionary measure. The pre-trial investigation continues.
