3.5 thousand dollars of bribes and “hiding” in a minibus: how the day passed with border guards
A Ukrainian offered 3.5 thousand dollars to border guards in Transcarpathia, and in Lviv region two men of conscription age tried to cross the border illegally.
So, at the checkpoint “Shegini”, during the inspection of a cargo-passenger minibus, border guards exposed a brazen attempt to avoid border control.
In order to hide in the car, a movable partition was built between the passenger and cargo compartments. According to the idea of the driver, initially he had to present one compartment for inspection and close the door. After that, give a conditional knock and open the door of another compartment. At this time, passengers hiding behind the rear passenger seats had to move into the cargo section.
However, vigilant border guards suspected the pilot.
“During the inspection of the vehicle, the driver behaved nervously, obstructing the inspection of the vehicle, simulating the lock of the door. The driver repeatedly knocked on the vehicle, giving signs to the offenders in order for them to move from the passenger compartment to the luggage compartment,” said Victoria Bondarchuk, head of the department of inspectors of the border service “Shegini”.
The passengers of the minibus - two men, born in 1985 and 2003, were still forced to climb out of hiding. As it turned out, the carrier agreed to deliver them outside Ukraine for 5 thousand dollars each.
For an attempt to illegally cross the border, the border guards issued administrative documents for two passengers under Art. 204 kUPap. Also, border guards sent to the National Police a notice on the detection of signs of criminal offenses: the stipulated Art. 332 Criminal Code “Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine” - in the actions of the driver and provided for in Art. 336 “Evasion of conscription during mobilization, for a special period, for military service by conscription of persons from the number of reservists in a special period” - in the actions of passengers.
Meanwhile, a resident of the Beregovsky district of the Lviv region offered a bribe to the Mukachevo detachment of the border guard 3500 dollars. A 22-year-old man arrived at the Luzhanka checkpoint in order to leave Ukraine, but he had no legal grounds for crossing the border during the martial law period.
For the unhindered passage, the Transcarpathian decided to give the inspector an illegal monetary reward, for which he received a categorical refusal.
Border guards sent a message to the National Police about the detection of signs of a crime provided for by Article 369 of the Criminal Code. The man was handed over to law enforcement.
