On May 29, 2014 near Slavyansk, Major General Serhiy Kulchytskyi was killed
Russian invaders shot down a Mi-8MT helicopter of the National Guard of Ukraine from the PZRK in the area of Mount Karachun.
The disaster claimed the lives of six soldiers of the NGU: Major General Sergei Kulchitsky, Colonel Sergei Buldovich, Major Vitaliy Kurilovich, Captain Serhiy Kravchenko, Ensigns Valentin Biloshkursky and Viktor Lipsky, and six special forces personnel militia of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk region: senior lieutenants of militia Petro Bezpalko and Vasily Semanyuk, senior ensign of militia Volodymyr Sharaburyak, ensign of militia Volodymyr Lysenchuk, militia sergeant Petro Ostapyuk, senior sergeant Victor Yakovyak's militia.
Only one of the crew members - the co-pilot Captain Alexander Makeenko - was destined for a miracle of survival.
