December 2 — International Day for the Abolition of Slavery
The purpose of this Day is to eradicate such modern forms of slavery as human trafficking, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labor, forced marriage, the sale of brides, the inheritance of widows and the forcible recruitment of children for further use in armed conflicts.
In Ukraine only in the last two years, the National Police has suspended the activities of 6 organized groups of human traffickers who have appeared before the court.
From February 24, 2022 to October 2023, 264 criminal offenses were identified on the basis of the article on trafficking in human beings. As part of these investigations, 169 traffickers received the status of suspects.
Also, during 2022-2023, 215 people were recognized as victims in criminal proceedings for human trafficking, 23 of them children.
