112 - Single emergency number
On July 4, 2023, on National Police Day, the first communication center “Service 112" was officially opened in Kyiv. The event was attended by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
“We promised to launch the service in early July — and we kept our word. Our next steps are to scale 112 first in all million-dollar cities, and then to the entire territory of the state,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko.
Operators receive calls from citizens. Further, requests are directed to the necessary departments, which respond accordingly. Specialists of the center speak sign language- can communicate with applicants via video call. To do this, send an SMS message to number 112 and wait for a connection link. Also, operators can take calls in English.
In a few days, on July 14 and 27, the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Deputy Minister presented the Communication Center “Service 112" and the Center for Strategic Analysis and Forecasting of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the People's Deputies of Ukraine.
“Before us, as citizens of Ukraine, as people who are part of the system of power, we have a great responsibility. Therefore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has prepared a draft law on the safe environment after the war. In parallel, we are working on projects that will concern specific areas: demining, weapons, video surveillance. The team of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is working to ensure that our people live safely after the end of the war,” the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.
On December 1, 2023, the communication center “Service 112" started its work in Lviv. Kyiv and Lviv Centres serve the western and central macro-regions of Ukraine.
By the end of 2024, such Centers should work in Odessa and Dnipro, and therefore every citizen of Ukraine will be able to call any emergency service using only one number - 112.
