“Kyiv operatives detained a group of foreign tourists for stealing from an apartment”, — Andriy Kryshchenko
Police are checking their involvement in a series of thefts committed in the capital. The defendants were informed of the suspicion, now they are in custody. For theft from an apartment, they face up to six years in prison.
The suspects were detained by the officers of the operational-search department of the capital's police department together with the operatives of the Desnyansk police department after committing a theft from an apartment on Honore de Balzac street in Desnyansky district.
According to the Chief of Police of Kyiv Andriy Kryshchenko, during the first investigative actions, the police officers established that the offenders got into the apartment by picking the key:
“From the apartment, the men stole things that can be handed over to the pawnshop or easily sold. In particular, they took a gyro scooter, photographic equipment, gold jewelry, perfume and even clothes. The amount of damage caused to the victims is about 100 thousand hryvnias. We seized physical evidence during urgent searches in the car and at the place of residence of one of the offenders. As a result, the defendants were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Both are foreigners, born in 1980 and 1985. We are now gathering the evidence base of their involvement in similar crimes, as we have reason to believe that they may be involved in a series of apartment thefts in the capital.”
According to this fact, the investigators of the Desnya Police Department opened a pre-trial investigation under Part 3 of Art. 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to six years in prison. The offenders were informed of the suspicion of committing a crime and a preventive measure was chosen - detention.
