Odessa police detained criminals who illegally mined minerals
The criminal group included four residents of the region. They, without any permits, set up the extraction of minerals from the quarry, which were sold to individuals and entrepreneurs.
On May 17, investigators of the regional police and operatives of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations in the Odessa region detained dealers during the sale of another batch of sand — 400 tons. Earlier, law enforcement documented the sale of another 300 tons of sand.
Without any documents for mining activities, the 43-year-old suggested to his friend to organize a joint business. The latter had all the necessary special equipment for this — an excavator and trucks. He enlisted his son and another local resident as drivers.
The co-organizer was engaged in the transportation of sand from the quarry to the storage base, his son - sought out customers and delivered illegally mined minerals to buyers, the third accomplice was engaged in illegal mining.
All four of the men have been arrested. Persons were informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 209 (Legalization (laundering) of property obtained by criminal means) and Part 3 of Art. 240 (Violation of the rules of protection or use of subsoil, illegal extraction of minerals) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the results of searches, law enforcement officers seized special equipment, illegally extracted sand, “rough” records and more than 550 thousand UAH.
The issue of choosing preventive measures for suspects is being resolved.
For the committed acts, the defendants may face up to eight years in prison.
