Although since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine, during the first two months there has been a decrease in the number of crimes registered on the territory of the state. The head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine announced this today, July 26, during a briefing in “Ukrinform”.

According to Vadim Dziubinsky, the police recorded a decrease in the level of crime for almost all types of crimes. This was preceded by a number of factors, including the introduction of a curfew, mass migration of people abroad and within the country and increased service of all law enforcement agencies, military, representatives of territorial defense, etc.

“Since May, we have observed a trend of increasing crime levels compared to the start of military aggression, as well as an increase in certain types of crimes compared to previous years. Despite the fact that the total crime decreased by 25 percent in six months and the level of serious and especially serious crimes remained at the level of last year, the number of premeditated murders increased due to murders that were committed in the occupied and de-occupied territories,” the head of the Criminal Investigation Department emphasized.

At the same time, according to Vadim Dziubinsky, fewer apartment thefts, robberies and robberies were recorded. However, there is a trend towards an increase in illegal possession of vehicles by almost 86% compared to the same period last year: “In territories where there was no active fighting, there are almost no recorded skilled illegal takeovers of vehicles. Basically, we register such crimes in the occupied and de-occupied territories of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy regions.”

The speaker noted that a significant part of the illegal seizures in the occupied territories are carried out by both Russian military and Ukrainian citizens who remained there: “This factor complicates the documentation and investigation of crimes. But the police, together with other law enforcement agencies, using technical capabilities, establishes witnesses, obtains evidence - audio, photo, video of these crimes to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Separately, the head of the Criminal Investigation Department focused on crimes related to the illegal circulation of weapons and crimes committed with the use of weapons: “During active hostilities, we have a large number of untreated, trophy, lost weapons, which in various ways enter peaceful territory, where it is subsequently distributed, stored, and also used to commit various types of crimes. Therefore, we are intensifying our work in this direction.”

Summing up, Vadim Dziubinsky stressed that the National Police constantly helps people in every possible way and takes measures to stabilize the criminogenic situation and fight crime.
