On March 5 the new Poltava patrol police swore allegiance to the Ukrainian people. In the evening 245 freshly baked policemen will come for their first tour of duty on the city streets.
The ceremony of taking the oath by the new policemen was attended by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, the Deputy Head of the National Police Alexander Fatsevich, the heads of regional authorities and police.
From September to December 2015 in Poltava 5893 candidates applied for service in the patrol police, but only one person from each 22 candidates successfully passed selection and completed training. And in the evening of March 5 245 best and most deserving will for the first time take up protection of law and order on the streets of ancient Poltava!
Among the new Poltava policemen:
- 20% of women;
- 80% of people with college level education;
- 36 participants of ATO, most of them fought in the glorious "Poltava" battalion.
Fighters of the MIA volunteer battalion "Poltava" for the first time received a combat mission on July 18, 2014 in the city of Artemovsk, then they took part in the battles near Debaltsevo, defended Makeyevka, Volodarskoe, Mariupol, Shirokino, Novoaydar, Belovodskoe, Stanitsa Luganskaya. "I'm proud of these guys!" - noted Arsen Avakov.
In addition to 245 patrolmen, the functioning of the Poltava City Police Department will be supported by 60 administrative staff members involved in the monitoring, incident control room and auxiliary services.
Police Captain Vitaly Melnichuk, 34 years old, has been appointed chief of the Poltava city Patrol Police Department. He has a bachelor degree in "Law enforcement" and experience in the Kiev patrol police (company commander)
"We started the reform of the old militia in a very difficult time. The time when the borders of our state were threatened by the hostile forces. We admire those heroes who have defended and continue to defend our country, and among you there are such brave warriors, heroes of ATO! Our goal was the birth of the new police force, but the most important thing - it is you, the people who will defend the people and serve the people!" - stressed the head of MIA.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that the new Poltava patrolmen came to revive people's trust to the police.
"I consider Poltava police a step towards a new qualitative and progressive changes. But without your support, dear Poltava residents, we shall not succeed. We need your support. Each of these guys and gals has made his/her choice - to defend the homeland, and is ready to sacrifice himself for the sake of Ukrainian citizens, their safety and security " - said the head of government.
Totally as of March 5, 2016, 8660 police patrolmen serve in Kiev, Lvov, Odessa, Kharkov, Uzhgorod, Mukachevo, Nikolayev, Lutsk, Khmelnytsky, Dnepropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankovsk, Kherson, Vinnitsa, Chernigov, Kremenchug, Cherkassy and Boryspol airport. By the end of 2016 the Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to launch a patrol police in Ternopol, Boryspol, Zhytomyr, Chernovtsy, Rovno, Zaporozhye, Kirovograd, Krivoy Rog, Sumy, Mariupol, Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Severodonetsk, Rubezhnoe and Lysychansk.
