On May 22 in the town of Severodonetsk (Lugansk region) 147 patrol police officers took the oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people. These policemen will protect the rule of law in the three adjacent towns - Severodonetsk, Lysychansk and Rubizhne - and on the roads between them. Thу same evening 18 patrol crews took to patrolling the streets of these three towns.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, the Head of the National Police of Ukraine Khatia Dekanoidze, MP of Ukraine Mustafa Nayyem, officials of the Lugansk regional Main Department of the National Police as well as representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, law enforcement agencies and the local authorities.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, the new police officers should meet the expectations of society and be worthy of the trust that people feel for the new police.
"Tonight will be the first time you go out to patrol the streets of your towns. From this day you will serve their residents: to help them, when it is needed and to be strict, when it is necessary. But the main thing is to ensure peace and order"- emphasized Arsen Avakov.
He urged the Severodonetsk residents to trust new policemen and support them.
"Trust them. Help them, and they will respond in kind"- said Arsen Avakov. He also informed that soon in several cities will be announced additional recruitment to the local police.
The Head of the National Police Khatia Dekanoidze, addressing the people of the Severodonetsk, emphasized that launch of the new patrol police in the Lugansk region was the result of a very hard labour of many people.
"This is the result of work of our entire team during the whole year. And we have achieved that today, in this town, the new police appeared"- said Khatia Dekanoidze.
She also stressed that the new police is not only "a new uniform, a new concept and the beautiful cars with flashing light bars. It is absolutely new policemen that serve the Ukrainian people" - said Khatia Dekanoidze.
"The main thing is that you are, as I hope, quite different. You may not have enough experience, perhaps you will make mistakes, but you should always work wisely and follow the dictates of your heart"- said Khatia Dekanoidze to the new policemen.
The recruitment to the ranks of patrol police in the urban conglomerate of Severodonetsk, Lysychansk and Rubizhne began on October 29, 2015. 1495 persons applied to serve in the police, which meant 10 candidates per one vacancy.
Almost 20% of the new police staff are women. 80 patrolmen (53%) have college level education. 20 patrol officers have participated in the fighting in the ATO zone. The average age of the new policemen is 26 years. Police Lieutenant Andrey Bogush was appointed acting Head of the Police Department.
To remind: Severodonetsk, Lisichansk and Rubizhne became the 28th, 29th and 30th city, respectively, where the new patrol police started to work.
